New Year, New Style - 19/12/2008

With only two weeks to go before the country begins to celebrate a new year in style, many celebrities have already started to look to the future with regards to fashion.

According to In Style magazine, the red carpets recently have been a parade of metallic fabrics, futuristic creations and structured asymmetrical shapes.

Australian Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett certainly has both her eyes firmly on the future, being snapped recently in a striking gold jewel-encrusted statement frock that was sculpted into the shape of a bell and featured a small starched collar and a plunging neckline over the top of a clingy knee-length shift dress by McQueen.

However, she kept her feet rooted in the past, stepping out in a pair of beautiful vintage-inspired nude peep toe heels that showed off her glamorous red nail varnish.

And Cate did it again at another red carpet event when she wore another futuristic gown by the designer Belenciaga, this one cinching in at the waist before swinging to the knee.

The dress was made from a silver and green mirrored fabric that looked like fish scales under the lights and Cate kept the rest of the look simple, with a matching clutch and gold strappy sandals - proving she is well aware that metallics are the key look of the season.

Meanwhile, actress Jennifer Connelly opted for her favourite designer Balenciaga for another red carpet event - a clingy shift dress in sea blue sequins with a black and a silver vertical stripe that showed off her eyes and contrasted with her shiny black hair.

She completed her look with a pair of strappy peep toe sandals in the same blue colour and kept her hair simple and makeup and jewellery to a minimum.

Kate Bosworth has proved in recent months that she is streets ahead of her peers when it comes to fashion and she held her own when she was snapped in a metallic white tailored dress with bell curve, pleated waist and hem and a matching belt with a small square buckle.

Her dark grey shiny sandals complimented the look perfectly.
